Zakir Hasan’s hundred on Test debut
The Sylhet City opener became the fourth Bangladesh batter to score a century in his first Test. Aminul Islam, Mohammad Ashraful, and Abul Hasan had done it before him. The ICC called it Bangladesh’s first debut Test hundred in a decade.
The Daily Star set out the district’s playing history as the city prepared to host Test cricket: from Heera and Suru, through Kapali, Rajin Saleh, Tapash, Enamul, and Nazmul, to Abu Jayed, Khaled Ahmed, Zakir Hasan, and Ebadot Hossain.
Chasing 126, Green Sylhet reached 127 for 7 in 19.3 overs and beat Sylhet Tigers Cricket Centre by three wickets. Nasum Ahmed took the tournament award. The finance minister gave the trophies.
Three balls, three wickets, and Bangladesh’s first Test hat-trick. ESPNcricinfo’s match report is still the cleanest account of the afternoon a 19-year-old from Sylhet cleaned up Pakistan’s tail.
